Pleasant Valley Preschool will hold its Open House and Registration for the next school year (2014-2015) from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31. Prospective and current families are encouraged to stop by and meet teachers and fellow members of the cooperative.
The preschool offers half-day programs for three to five year olds and fosters creative play and learning while prepping children for kindergarten. The school’s 1 to 5 student-teacher ratio ensures that students receive the attention they need!
We are excited to meet you! Please excuse the construction surrounding the school during your visit. Crews are currently working to widen a large segment of Stringfellow Road and extend PVP’s parking lot.
Efforts are currently underway to organize Pleasant Valley Preschool’s main fundraiser of the school year — the Fall Festival. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go towards purchasing supplies and new equipment for the preschool.
We still need your help to secure donations — monetary or loose items/services that can be packaged into gift baskets — from local businesses and community members. You could inquire about donations with managers/owners at restaurants and stores you frequent in person. Perhaps you know anyone with a home business who can donate products/services or you yourself have special skills (jewelry making, baking, photography, handyman services) you could offer? There are many in the community who would be willing to contribute.
Other ways to help: Donations of new or like-new items (toys, DVDs, wine, books, coffee, etc) can be dropped into our collection basket at the drop-off/pick-up line. Also, parents can sell their Fall Festival auction tickets ($15 each before the event, $20 each at the door) or ask folks to donate even if they cannot attend the event. The adults-only auction & dinner is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Cale Community Center.
Any help with the Fall Festival will benefit your child’s experience at Pleasant Valley! Please get involved and contribute to the school’s efforts to provide more resources for the students! Anyone with questions can reach Jenny Reinitz at firstname.lastname@example.org/ 703-593-4329 or Kristi Brookes at email@example.com/ 703-606-6839.
Where did September go?! In just a short month, our PVP students have learned so much about each other, their teachers and the basics of preschool! In addition to playing with one another and having a blast, students are going over their ABCs, learning new concepts and slowly getting prepped for their journey into school beyond Pleasant Valley.
If you haven’t signed up yet to view photos of your kids in the classroom, feel free to do so here. (Photos can only be viewed by approved members of the Shutterfly group). Mrs. Velis, Mrs. Cummings and Mrs. McGrath have posted photos and will continue to do so throughout the school year. Parents are also encouraged to upload their own photos on the site!
PVP families are invited to the school’s Movie Night at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 20 at the Community Center. Come out and socialize with other PVP parents/students while enjoying a flick!
“Horton Hears a Who!” will be played on the big screen at 6:40 p.m. Popcorn and water will be provided, and families are welcome to bring their own dinner!
Welcome to Pleasant Valley Preschool! We are a small family and community-oriented Cooperative Preschool. We have just two classes: 2 Day (3-4 year old) and 3 Day Pre-K (4-5 year old). We have been operating out of the Cale (former Greenbriar) Community Center for more than 35 years.
Our primary goal here at PVP is to make your children HAPPY! Our curriculum is play-based and strives to develop social, emotional, cognitive, fine, and gross-motor skills. We believe that if your children are having fun while they are here, they will LOVE school and be more successful when they enter Kindergarten.
When your child is here they have the unique experience of having the school all to themselves. We have a spacious setup which includes centers/areas for free play, music & movement, circle time, snack, manipulative/sensory activities, library/reading book nook, dramatic play & art. For large motor activities we have a playground located behind the school.
There are two teachers and one parent helper in the classroom each day so we have a small adult to child ratio (1 to 5). As a cooperative preschool the children love having their family come to their classroom and join in on the fun, and so do we! The staff here at PVP have a combined 25 years of experience teaching & working with young children. We also all have had our own children in the program and have served on the Board of Directors. We are committed to treating your kids as one of our own. When you are at PVP you are family.
We’re looking forward to an exciting and fun-filled school year!
Cathy Velis, Director and Lead Teacher
